ABOUT CONSTITUENT COLLEGES:
AN INTRODUCTION

The UGC, in 2006, initiated an ambitious project of setting up Model Degree Colleges in 374 Educationally Backward Districts (EBDs) across the country. The Panjab University in collaboration with Punjab Government accounts for four colleges of the EBDs in which these Model Degree Colleges are to be established.

The plan to establish model Colleges was announced on August 15, 2007. The objective was to cater to the needs of students in Educationally Backward Districts, so that access to quality education was made easier, as only such a move would lead to equity and inclusiveness in the society.

The eleventh five year plan had set the target to increase gross enrolment ratio (GER) from 10 per cent in 2006 to 15 per cent in 2012. The increase in the enrolment rate would mean a rise from 14 million students in 2007 to 21 million in 2012, a seven million rise. Five percentage increase would be achieved via a dual strategy: increasing the number of universities and colleges and enhancing intake capacity of the existing institutions.

The College caters to various professional skills, promote value based education, develop and enhance the potential of the students and ingrain in them the ideals of social equality, service, discipline and respect.

The college provide a wide range of under graduate courses in Humanities, Computer Science & Application, Commerce and other related as well as specialized fields.

The college ensures that academics is not confined to the classroom or straitjacketed within the prescribed syllabi; students shall be encouraged to move beyond the boundaries of the course contents and explore various dimensions of knowledge.
